Tanya Ansahta Garnett, PhD

Co-Founder | PhD International Relations

Dr. Tanya Ansahta Garnett has two decades of experience as a professor, technical adviser, researcher, facilitator, and gender expert. As an educator both in the United States and in Liberia, she teaches international development and gender studies and facilitates knowledge sharing events with youth and mid-career professionals. She is passionate about strengthening the effectiveness of international development through meaningful collaboration, critical thinking, organizational learning, change management, pertinent evidence-based analysis, participatory program design, and systematic monitoring, evaluation, and learning. She obtained her doctorate degree in International Development from Tulane University Law School. Her research interests focus on gender and development, peace processes, post-conflict societies and feminist foreign policy.

Ms. Itoka has been working in Liberia for over a decade in community and private sector development, natural resource management, and conservation. She led the sustainability department of the largest oil palm concession in the Northwest of Liberia for 6 years. During her tenure she was able to provide over USD 600,000 to 25 towns particularly targeting women and youth. She led the oil palm private sector investment portfolio with Conservation International focusing support in high forested communities. Ms. Itoka has supported a number of local and international partners such as Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF), Food Agriculture Organization (FAO), Global Environment Facility (GEF), and others at the national and local level in agriculture, conservation, climate finance, alternative livelihood, and gender mainstreaming in forest-fringe communities.
